Editorial Design - This is a Feminist Manifesto

The encouragement of feminist activism through “Design Fiction” is the main focus in this reader.

Design is a mean of communication used by activists to carry out social and political actions. Feminist activism emerged to oppose artistic works that portrayed women as objects and, even today, the same themes are addressed, given that causes such as the fight against harassment, sexual violence, gender discrimination and objectification of the woman’s body are still being claimed.

In a society where information is controlled by the media, design is used as a political strategy for the dissemination of messages to diverse audiences, opening new spaces for development and action. The designer’s ability to understand society and develop products and services suited to their problems, makes it evident that these professionals are potential social and political transforming agents. Thus, the role of the designer in the propagation of information and in the projection of imaginative futures through his creations, is crucial.
